Love!

Found these on Grafik's blog and instantly loved them. Created by Daniel Baer, these are paper cut invites for a fashion client in key SS10 colours. Elegant type and delicate detail, I want one!

M1

Aesthetically pleasing is not something that immediately springs to mind when talking about the M1 motorway which recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary this year.

However, that's exactly what Melissa Price found and proved it to be with her 20 page book containing hand screen printed illustrations of the curves and shapes of M1 junctions seen from above in typical motorway blue and white. Interesting to see that pleasing design can be found in the seemingly ugliest and most boring things.

Chanel Temporary Tattoos

I should be doing some last minute revision but I've just come across the news that Chanel are bringing out their own range of temporary tattoos.

Inspired from the designs by Peter Phillips for the Chanel Spring Summer Paris show, body art seems to be a hot trend for the season, also shown by the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and Rodarte. Sold in a set of 55 featuring bead, floral and bangle designs a pack will cost you £49 from March 1st. Not exactly cheap for transfer tattoos, but the cheapest of all Chanel accessories to cover yourself in!

So the best new statement accessory or fashion being taken too far? What do you think?

Adverts on Stairs!

Quite a tongue in cheek piece of advertising I just found here from DDB. Diet coke is being advertised on the escalator, regular coke on the steps.

The Resistance picks up Best Album Cover

The cover for album "The Resistance" by Muse, designed by La Boca has won the award for best Album cover in this years Best Art Vinyl awards. La Boca are a company specialising in design for music, film and fashion, who have an impressive client list! As a big Muse fan myself I think this album cover is particularly successful not only as an attractive piece of design but also in representing the theme and mood for the album.

The 50 winning designs from the awards will be displayed in various locations across the UK. For more information and to see who the other award winners visit: http://www.artvinyl.com/en/nominate/winners_09.html

Vivienne Westwood Wallpaper

Now you can bring some of Vivienne Westwood's most iconic prints and designs into your own home with her new wallpaper collection collaborated with Cole & Son.

She says: "It is good when my ideas get carried over into other artistic media. This collection is a perfect opportunity to be able to work with a heritage company like Cole & Son and to see my ideas from fashion translated into the world of interiors and wallpaper."

Here are two examples from the collection, the top one is the cut out lace print from the I Am Expensiv collection from Spring/Summer 2007, the bottom one is the squiggle pattern from the Pirate Autumn/Winter collection 1981/2.

Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far

When I was researching other self promotional and personal books for my own book project I came across this project by Stefan Sagmeister. He has produced a book named "Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far" which contains 15 sub booklets, each with 1 thing he has learnt about his life. For a good preview of the book, click on this link...

JVEX5037P

One of the pieces he created for the series was using the sentence: "Obsessions make my life worse and my work better".

In September 2008 he took to the streets of a square in Amsterdam with 250,000 euro cent coins sorted into 4 different colours. Over 8 days a team constructed the piece covering over 800 square metres. Here are some pictures showing the process of making the piece...

And here is the final piece:

A truly amazing piece of typography. I love the depths and tones that have been created from using the 4 different shades. After the piece was completed it was left for the public to interact with. However just 20 hours after completion, it had completely disappeared. The police had been called after someone had been bagging up the coins, and decided to remove the whole piece to "protect" it. I know that if I had spent 8 days creating this amazing piece, I would be devastated to see it gone so fast!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year!
